In addition to adjustments, chiropractors have many tools at their disposal to help improve the rate of recovery and to make patients more comfortable while they are still healing and in the acute stage of care. The three most used therapies in our office are interferential current, therapeutic ultrasound and decompression.

The most common therapy that we use is called interferential current. For this therapy, four pads are placed on the area of concern. Interferential current flows through these pads and into the tissue. The current is set to a frequency that aims to decrease inflammation, which will help increase the rate of healing in the area. Many patients also notice relief following this therapy.

Therapeutic ultrasound is another great tool we have in our therapy department. Therapeutic ultrasound makes the tissue more pliable, which allows for increased blood flow to the area and decreased inflammation. About half of our patients notice a sensation of warmth when ultrasound is being performed. This therapy can be performed on many areas of the body, but two most common areas we use ultrasound on are the neck and low back.

One of our most popular therapies is decompression. Decompression can be performed to both the neck and low back. Our decompression table does exactly as the name implies: it decompresses the region. A gentle, controlled amount of pulling will be applied to a region which will take away stress from the area. This gentle pulling allows for nourishment to enter the joints of your spine and allow for waste products to be removed. We commonly used spinal decompression on patients with disc herniations, pain in the low back or neck and spinal stenosis. Spinal decompression is a safe and comfortable therapy.

In addition to the passive therapies of interferential, therapeutic ultrasound, and decompression, we also have our patients perform active therapies and therapeutic exercises in office.
